The questions air conditioning companies in Cyprus are asked most, with short answers on cost, certification, sizing, and what a written quote must contain.

The questions repeat, and most of them have short answers. A single split unit up to 12,000 BTU, supplied and installed, generally lands between about €550 and €1,200. Whoever opens the refrigerant circuit has to hold certification for it, because the gas inside is regulated. The unit size is set by the room rather than by the budget. Almost everything else people ask about air conditioning companies in Cyprus turns out to be a question about the quote, not about the equipment.

Short answers
Cost. Read the quote against the general range before reading it against the other quotes.
A single split up to 12,000 BTU, supplied and installed, generally sits between about €550 and €1,200. Both ends can be honest prices; capacity, inverter versus fixed-speed compressor, brand and warranty terms, pipe run, working at height and whether a new electrical circuit is in scope decide where a given job falls.
Certification. Domestic splits sold in Cyprus run on fluorinated refrigerants — R-32 and R-410A are the common ones. Installing, servicing and leak-checking that equipment requires certified personnel working for a certified undertaking. Ask for the certificate, the name on it, and confirmation that the person named is the person who will be on site.
Sizing. The correct answer references the room: floor area, ceiling height, glazing area and orientation, insulation, and typical occupancy. A company that quotes the same unit for every room has measured nothing.
Permits. For a standard split inside an existing dwelling, generally no permit. The outdoor unit is what changes the answer: fixing plant to a facade, a shared wall or a common area is governed by the building's own regulations and its management committee, and anything altering the external appearance of a property in a planning-controlled area belongs with the Department of Town Planning and Housing before the drill comes out.
Inverter or fixed-speed. An inverter compressor modulates instead of switching on and off, which matters in a climate where the cooling season is long and the unit spends most of it at part load. The premium is recovered through running cost rather than through purchase price, so the honest comparison is over years, not at the till.
Multi-split or singles. One outdoor unit serving several rooms saves facade space, which is why it is popular in apartments. It also means one point of failure, longer pipe runs, and a fault that takes every room offline at once.
Electrical work. A new indoor unit usually needs its own circuit, and that circuit is electrical work in its own right. It must be carried out and certified by someone entitled to issue an installation certificate. Many air conditioning companies employ or retain that person, which is fine — what matters is that the quote names them.
Duration. A single split in an accessible position is a same-day job. What extends it is height, a long or concealed pipe run, chasing walls, and electrical work beyond a spare way in an existing consumer unit.
Warranty. Manufacturer warranty on the equipment and installer warranty on the workmanship are separate, with separate durations. Many manufacturer warranties are conditional on documented annual servicing, so the service record is part of the warranty rather than an optional extra.
Reviews. There are none here, deliberately. This directory records registration status, category, district coverage and contact details, each with the date it was last checked against its source. Ratings and testimonials are not collected, and a listing is a record of what the registers say rather than an opinion about workmanship.
Where the answer depends
Location changes the specification more than most people expect on an island this size. Within a few hundred metres of the sea — Kato Paphos is the clearest case — salt-laden air attacks standard brackets, and galvanised or marine-grade fixings are the normal specification rather than an upgrade. Inland, Nicosia has the widest temperature range on the island, which pushes the sizing calculation harder in both directions and makes shading and insulation part of the conversation rather than a footnote.
Building type changes it again. The high-rise stock around Limassol brings facade rules, balcony waterproofing details and a management committee with a view on where plant may be fixed. An older low-rise block brings a consumer unit that may have no spare way. A detached house usually brings a longer pipe run instead.
Season changes price and lead time together. Demand concentrates with the first sustained heat, and through the summer the same companies are also servicing hotels and holiday lets. In the seasonal accommodation around Ayia Napa, refurbishment is concentrated into November to March for exactly that reason. Work booked outside the rush is easier to schedule and easier to negotiate.
What nobody asks but should
Where does the condensate go? Every indoor unit produces water. A gravity drain to a sensible outlet is fine, and a pump is fine when it is specified and priced. Water discharging onto a neighbour's balcony is a dispute.
What happens to the old unit? Refrigerant in a unit being replaced has to be recovered by someone certified to handle it, not vented. A quote that says nothing about removal and lawful disposal has either omitted a cost or omitted a legal obligation.
Does the name on the quote match everything else? The name on the quote, the name in the Registrar of Companies record and the name on the bank account should be one name. A company struck off but still trading under the old name is a recurring pattern, and it is checkable in minutes.
Who is around in year four? Servicing, warranty administration and spare parts all run through a company that has to still exist. Years registered is a matter of record.
Who signs off anything larger than domestic? Ducted systems, VRF across a commercial floor and roof-mounted plant fall to a mechanical or electrical engineer registered with the Scientific and Technical Chamber, and that registration is a condition of practising rather than a credential to display.

Common questions
Is a bigger unit the safer choice?
No. An oversized unit reaches temperature quickly, shuts down, and leaves humidity behind, which is why some rooms end up cold and clammy at the same time. An undersized one runs continuously and never arrives. The load calculation decides, not the round number.
Can the same company do the installation and the electrics?
Yes, provided a specific named person entitled to certify the installation performs the circuit work and issues the certificate. Where the electrics are subcontracted, the subcontractor should be named on the quote rather than implied.
What should a comparable quote state?
Make, model and rated capacity of each unit; the position of every indoor and outdoor unit; the pipe run in metres; the bracket specification; the electrical scope and who performs it; the condensate route; making good of drilled walls; removal and lawful recovery of any old unit; commissioning and handover documents; VAT as a separate line; a payment schedule; and a start date with a duration.
How often does a system need servicing in Cyprus?
Intervals are set by the manufacturer and by how hard the system works. Dust, a long cooling season and coastal air on the outdoor unit all push a Cypriot installation towards the shorter end. Where the manufacturer warranty requires documented servicing, that schedule is the one that counts.
