Air conditioning companies in Strovolos quote in three shapes, and which shape applies matters more than which company is asked. Supply and installation of a split system is priced per unit, against a stated model and a stated pipe run. Service and repair is priced as a call-out plus labour, with refrigerant and parts on top. Maintenance is priced per unit per visit, usually on an annual agreement. A single figure with no shape attached is not comparable with anything.
The equipment is a labelled product, so hardware prices differ less between firms than people expect. The installation around it is where quotes separate: pipe run length, concealed pipework against external trunking, condenser position, condensate drainage, and whether the consumer unit can carry another circuit.
Local market summary
Strovolos is part of the continuous urban area around Nicosia, so companies based in Nicosia, Lakatamia, Latsia, Aglantzia or Engomi reach it without a travel premium. That removes one variable that distorts quotes elsewhere on the island and leaves scope as the honest difference between them.
Three kinds of company work the area: equipment dealers who install what they sell and are strongest on new units and warranty work; independent installation and service firms who fit any brand and carry most of the repair workload; and mechanical contractors who take ducted and multi-split systems in houses and offices, where design matters as much as fitting.
Season governs availability. Demand concentrates in the first real heat and again in the first cold spell, because in Nicosia the same units are the main winter heating in many homes. A firm booked solid in July may attend within a day in March, so anyone planning an installation rather than reacting to a breakdown gets a better choice of dates by asking in spring or autumn.
Two questions are worth asking on the first call: whether the technician opening the refrigerant circuit holds the certification that work requires, and whether the price includes the electrical connection or assumes a circuit is already waiting. Both are routine, and both are where scope quietly moves.
What it costs here
Those ranges are read from recorded quotes as the page loads, with sample size and date attached, rather than written into this article and left to age. What they cannot show is why two quotes for the same nominal unit differ. These are the items that usually explain it.
- Pipe run and routing. The distance between indoor unit and condenser is the main labour variable. A short run through an external wall is quick. A run concealed in a chase, or carried across a facade in trunking, is not — and in a block, an external run touches common property.
- Condenser position. Balcony, flat roof, light well or facade bracket each carry different fixing, access and noise implications. Height work brings its own access cost.
- Condensate drainage. Gravity to an existing outlet is straightforward; a pump, or a new drain routed somewhere legitimate, is an added item. Water discharging onto a neighbour's balcony is the commonest complaint after a cheap installation.
- The electrical side. Each unit wants a dedicated circuit with protection. Older boards frequently have no spare way, so a board upgrade becomes part of the job. Whether that is inside the quote is worth having in writing.
- Unit specification. Fixed-speed against inverter, seasonal efficiency class, noise rating and whether the unit is specified for heating as well as cooling all move price, and all appear on the product label.
- Making good. Chasing, filling and repainting after concealed pipework may be quoted, subcontracted or left with the client. Quotes that differ on this alone are not quotes for the same job.
Local conditions that change the job
Strovolos has a large stock of 1970s–1990s apartment blocks, and that stock decides most of what is different about cooling work here.
Buildings not designed for it. Blocks of that period were built without provision for refrigerant pipework, condenser positions or the electrical load that followed. The result is pipework carried externally, condensers on balconies and facades, and consumer units sized for a very different household. The facade is common property, so a bracket fixed to it is a management committee question, and buildings increasingly set a standard position so the elevation does not become a wall of units.
The widest temperature range on the island. Nicosia's inland position gives the widest temperature range in Cyprus, which drives insulation and shading specifications — and means a unit here works at both ends of the year. Inland design temperatures raise the cooling load relative to a coastal site of the same size, so a system sized on a coastal rule of thumb runs at full output through August and never quite arrives. The same unit is then the winter heat source, so heating capacity at low ambient temperature is worth asking about rather than assuming.
Glazing and orientation before capacity. A west-facing living room with large unshaded glazing behind a thin 1980s wall will defeat a correctly sized unit. External shading or a shutter often does more for comfort than the next capacity step up, and costs less to run. A company that asks about orientation and glazing before quoting a size is surveying properly.
Dust, filters and access. The Nicosia plain deals in dust rather than salt, including the spring events that coat everything outdoors in a morning. Blocked filters and fouled outdoor coils are the most frequent causes of an underperforming unit that is not actually faulty, so cleaning access belongs in the decision about where the condenser goes.
Refrigerant is regulated work. Opening a refrigerant circuit is not a general handyman task: fluorinated greenhouse gas rules require certified personnel for handling, recovery and leak checking, at disposal as well as at installation. Larger designed systems in offices and mixed-use buildings bring in an engineer registered with ETEK.
Companies covering the area
Listings record what a document supports: the registered company name and number as filed with the Registrar of Companies, the towns covered, the categories of work the company states it does, and the date the entry was last verified. Where the work calls for certified refrigerant handling, a licensed electrical contractor for the connection, or an ETEK-registered engineer for design, the listing records the registration rather than a judgement about it.
Coverage is shown town by town because it differs even within the Nicosia urban area: a firm treating Strovolos, Lakatamia and Latsia as routine may treat Dali or Kokkinotrimithia as a scheduling exception in the peak weeks. The air conditioning category index, the Nicosia area pages and the Strovolos air conditioning listings are organised on that basis, and the services index covers the electrical and building work next to it.
There is no paid placement and no sponsored ordering, and no reviews, ratings or testimonials anywhere on this site — none are collected, so none are shown.

Common questions
Does an air conditioning installer in Strovolos need certification?
For anything that opens the refrigerant circuit, yes. Fluorinated greenhouse gas rules require certified personnel for handling, recovery and leak checking. The electrical connection is separate again and belongs to a licensed electrical contractor where a new circuit or board work is involved.
Can a flat owner fit a condenser on the balcony or facade?
The balcony may be for the owner's use, but the facade is common property, and many blocks in Strovolos set a standard position and routing for units. The management committee decides, and settling it before an installation date is booked avoids a unit being fitted and then argued about.
When is the best time to book an installation?
Spring or autumn. Demand peaks with the first real heat and again with the first cold spell, because these units heat as well as cool inland. Outside those windows there is more choice of company and more choice of date.
How do I compare quotes that look very different?
Compare the scope, not the headline. Pipe run length and routing, condenser position, condensate arrangement, whether a dedicated circuit is included, whether making good is included, and what the warranty covers on parts, labour and compressor. Two quotes that differ on any of those are not quotes for the same work.
Does this site publish reviews or star ratings for these companies?
No. Companies appear with registry data, stated coverage and a verification date, and none of the ordering can be bought.
