An accountancy fee in Strovolos is built from two things: a calendar of filings that is identical everywhere in the Republic, and the volume of paperwork behind them, which is not. The calendar is public — VAT returns on standard quarterly periods, due with payment 40 days after each period closes; company provisional tax in two instalments on 31/07 and 31/12; an annual return at the Registrar of Companies; and a set of financial statements. Because that list is fixed, the part of a proposal worth examining is the volume banding underneath it, not the obligations themselves.
Local market summary
Strovolos is a dense residential municipality on the edge of the old city, and its accountancy market reflects that rather than any concentration of head offices. Practices here are typically small: a signatory, a handful of bookkeepers, and ground-floor or first-floor offices on the main avenues, in the same 1970s–1990s blocks that make up most of the municipality's building stock. Many sit on the same streets as the businesses they act for.
The client base follows. Owner-managed trading companies, retail and food outlets, professional services, and a large share of construction and trade businesses — in a municipality where rewiring and replumbing dominate renovation work, the firms doing that work are somebody's monthly bookkeeping. Alongside them sit holding and property companies whose only local presence is a registered office address.
One structural advantage is specific to the district rather than to the town. The Registrar of Companies and the Tax Department both sit in Nicosia, a short drive away, so a practice here can attend in person when something cannot be resolved electronically. Most of the compliance cycle no longer requires that, but the exceptions — a stuck filing, a disputed assessment, a document that has to be lodged in original — are exactly the situations in which distance is felt.
Registration itself carries no district element. A company registered anywhere in Cyprus can be served from Strovolos, and a Strovolos business can be served from Larnaca, which is why proximity should be treated as a convenience rather than a selection criterion.
What it costs here
The ranges are read from our records at page load with the date each was last checked, rather than written into the text. A single annual figure covering "all accounting and tax" cannot be compared with anything, so a proposal worth setting against another separates at least these lines:
- monthly bookkeeping, banded by transaction volume rather than by turnover
- payroll, per employee per month
- the VAT return, per period
- preparation of the annual financial statements
- the audit fee, shown separately and with the signing firm named
- the corporate tax return
- the annual return filed at the Registrar of Companies
- an hourly rate for anything outside that list, stated in advance
Within a band, what moves a fee is volume and mess: the number of bank accounts and currencies to reconcile, whether records arrive monthly or arrive in a box in March, payroll headcount and how often it changes, whether the company holds stock or property, and whether the audit is signed in-house or placed with a licensed auditor elsewhere. Fees are also quoted either inclusive or exclusive of VAT at the standard rate of 19%, and two proposals stated on different bases are not the same number.
Local conditions that change the job
A trade-heavy client list. Construction and building-services companies bring retentions, work in progress, subcontractor invoices and materials accounts, and they operate across two VAT rates: the standard 19% and the reduced 5% that applies to qualifying renovation and repair of private residences under the Tax Department's conditions. Getting that split wrong on a year of invoices is expensive to unwind, and it is worth asking a prospective firm how many construction clients it already carries.
Cash reconciliation. Retail and food businesses along the avenues generate transaction volume out of proportion to their turnover. Since bookkeeping is banded on volume, a small café can sit in a higher band than a consultancy billing several times as much, and a quote based on turnover alone will be re-quoted upwards once the first month is processed.
Year-end concentration. December year-ends dominate, and the second provisional tax instalment on 31/12 lands in the same weeks. Capacity in that window is the single most useful thing to establish before engaging: a firm that takes on more December year-ends than it can clear is not being dishonest in July, it is being optimistic.
Reporting language. Working papers and management accounts prepared only in Greek are a poor fit for a foreign-owned company whose directors need to read them. Retrofitting an English reporting pack later costs more than specifying it in the engagement letter.
Watching the threshold. VAT registration becomes compulsory once taxable turnover passes €15,600 in any rolling 12-month period. A firm monitoring that line for a growing client is performing work a cheaper proposal may simply not include, and the consequence of missing it falls on the company.

Listings record what has been checked and the date of the check: the entry at the Registrar of Companies, VAT registration, stated services and coverage. There are no reviews, ratings or testimonials here and no paid positions, because professional service quality cannot be evidenced from anonymous submissions and is easy to manufacture.
Ask who signs, by name
Not the practice — the individual whose ICPAC registration can be looked up, and who will still be the signatory once the company is larger.
Establish where the audit goes
In-house or placed outside, named either way, with its fee on its own line rather than folded into a single annual figure.
Agree the exit before the start
What is returned on handover, in what format and how quickly, belongs in the engagement letter. It is far easier to settle before a relationship begins.

Common questions
What do accountants charge in Strovolos?
Compliance work is quoted against a fixed calendar and a volume band, so the useful comparison is line by line rather than annual total; the recorded ranges for the district are in the table above. Two proposals for the same company usually differ because one has assumed a lower transaction volume, excluded the audit, or quoted exclusive of VAT.
Does an accountant need to be near the company's office?
Rarely. Registration is national, filings to the Registrar of Companies and the Tax Department are electronic, and there is no district element to either. Proximity matters where paper records have to be collected regularly, or where a director wants routine face-to-face meetings, and for very little else.
What does ICPAC registration actually mean?
That the individual has met the Institute's entry requirements and is subject to its rules, including continuing professional development and complaints handling. It is a floor rather than a ranking, and it means there is somewhere to take a complaint that is not the practice itself. It is also distinct from the licence required to sign a statutory audit.
When does a Strovolos business have to register for VAT?
Once taxable turnover passes €15,600 in any 12-month period, registration becomes compulsory. That is a rolling test rather than an annual one, which is why it catches out businesses whose growth arrives in a single strong quarter.
Does this site rate or review accountants?
No. It holds no reviews, ratings or testimonials, and no listing position can be bought. Ordering rests on recorded registration and coverage data, with the date each field was last checked shown next to it.
